I know some faith teachers that would probably shudder at the thought of asking for a sign but if we be honest, all of us have been in situations like Gideon. Have you been there? Have you been in a place where the task is so monumental, the risk is so great, and success is the only option and out of desperation to be absolutely sure you have God on your side, so you ask for a sign.
Gideon was in such a place. God appeared to him, while he was minding his own business, and called him to deliver backslidden Israel from an oppressive enemy. To receive a call to deliver a nation, when he was actually hiding in a winepress is quite ironic isn’t it? Do you know that many of us have been fearful, have backed up from the kingdom, are unsure, a bit unstable and God will still call us right in the middle of our weakness and let us know he is with us and that we are mighty warriors!
Maybe you are facing a high risk, high reward venture or decision and you sense God is talking to you but you aren’t certain. This decision is too important to proceed without complete assurance that you are in the perfect will of God.
Don’t ask God to wet any fleeces, but you can ask him to allow the word to illuminate so clearly the light to your path and the lamp to your feet. Pray the essence of Gideon’s prayer, “Lord, Give Me A Sign”!
